Attractions Combine to Give GTOS Top Experience
The UK travel trade dropped anchor this week for a special insight into Dorset.
The UK travel trade dropped anchor this week for a
special insight into Dorset.
It turned out to be a case of fish and chips, fossils
and..fun!
Arranged by Daish’s Holidays in conjunction with Steve
Reed Tourism Ltd and local tourism businesses, group travel organisers enjoyed
a relaxing stay at the Prince Regent Hotel situated right on the Weymouth
seafront.
Forty seven GTOS from all over the country took in
some of the very top attractions in what has to be one of Great Britain’s most
beautiful and unspoilt counties.
With the support of City Cruises Poole, Lemur Leisure
and Poole Tourism, the GTOS were looking at the area with a view to bringing
groups of visitors back to Dorset and to the well located Prince Regent Hotel.
A visit to Poole saw the group visit Poole Museum; the
Quayside Emporium, where the group had coffee and shopping and Titan
Leathercraft for a leather making demonstration. This was followed by a superb
fish and chips lunch cruise with City Cruises Poole where the GTOS were treated
to unrivalled views of Brownsea Island and Sandbanks.
Athelhampton House and Gardens beside Tolpuddle gave an
excellent house and garden tour for the visitors.
The tour planners found that being based at the hotel
in Weymouth helped to provide an ideal base for their fact-finding mission.
Next, they experienced the unforgettable and stunning
Kimmeridge Bay where fossil hunting was the order of the day – followed by a
fascinating visit to the nearby Etches Collection attraction - the state of the
art museum created by famous fossil hunter and expert Steve Etches MBE, who met
the group to explain how he began his marvellous visitor attraction.
The Tank Museum, Bovington – with its amazing
collection of tanks – was next in the sights of the GTOS. A trip on the Swanage
Railway concluded the visit for the group – taking in views of Corfe Castle
along its scenic route.
‘We were very pleased to have the support of the
wonderful attractions – they really helped us to put together what was a
tremendous set of tour ideas for the GTOS,’ says Steve Reed of Steve Reed
Tourism Ltd.
‘The event was purely for group travel organisers and
we can see that the itinerary they enjoyed will certainly help them plan and
book their group tours.’
